Who we are
LHCOS advocates to improve the lives of captive land hermit crabs and protect and preserve wild hermit crabs, their habitat and resources like shells.
How we began

The Land Hermit Crab Owners Society (LHCOS) got its start back in the early days of the internet as an email list, then in 1999 it transitioned to a Yahoo! group. The Yahoo! group was created by a small but dedicated group of hermit crab keepers who were frustrated by the pet industry and the lack of accurate and accessible hermit crab care information. The group was focused on science and research from the very beginning. The care practices that are now considered the standard throughout the hobby were established by this group as a result of their collective research and study.
As the group continued to grow they launched The Crab Street Journal, the online magazine for the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society. The Crab Street Journal became a hermit crab care library where the members began to create hermit crab caresheets, guides and articles for the public.
