LHCOS Local Representative

LHCOS is excited to officially welcome Amanda to the Local Representatives team! Amanda joins us from North Carolina.

Hello dear crabby friends! My name is Amanda Mitchell and I am thrilled to have recently joined you as a LHCOS local representative. I have been a hermit crab mom for just over a year. We purchased our first crabs on vacation and were quickly schooled regarding hermit crab husbandry. I have rescued one sweet soul from a buy/sell/trade group and have a total of four crabs at this time. I am married with three boys, ages 10, 8, and 5. We have recently added a puppy to our household, and have a betta, mystery snail, and pleco.

I was born and raised in West Virginia, moving to the Raleigh, NC area 17 years ago. I worked at Duke University for a few years in a nicotine research center before staying home with the kiddos for 8 years. I took a part-time position with the same scientist (who has opened a private research center) a couple years ago to get out of the house and get back into outer world.

I am a creative, intuitive type. I double-majored in English and Spanish in college, so it’s a given that I love language. I have dabbled in writing poetry and stories. I have recently begun a new project that I am very excited about. It’s top secret, but involves some historical details and is set in West Virginia. There are three books planned at this point.

I am so very happy to be a part of this amazing group, and can’t wait to see how far we go! Thank you for having me!
