Volunteer With Land Hermit Crab Owners Society
Purpose-Driven Support for Meaningful Work
Volunteers are a vital part of the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society. From education and adoption to outreach and advocacy, our work depends on people who care about doing things thoughtfully and responsibly.
If you’re interested in contributing in a meaningful way—and can work independently with clear expectations—you may be a great fit for our volunteer team.
What Volunteering With LHCOS Looks Like
Our volunteer roles are designed to:
- Support real programs with real impact
- Respect volunteer time and availability
- Provide clear instructions and boundaries
- Focus on follow-through, not pressure
Most opportunities are remote and task-based, with flexibility built in.
Our Volunteer Approach
To ensure a good experience for both volunteers and the programs they support, LHCOS uses a structured volunteer intake process.
What this means:
- Volunteers apply for specific types of work, not vague roles
- All volunteers start with a short trial period
- Expectations are clear from the beginning
- It’s always okay to step away if something isn’t a good fit
This approach helps us protect our programs, our community, and our volunteers’ time.
Current Areas of Support
Volunteer needs may vary over time, but commonly include:
- Responding to emails using provided templates
- Reviewing applications or requests using checklists
- Tracking information in shared spreadsheets
- General administrative support tied to specific programs
You do not need to be an expert—just reliable, communicative, and comfortable working independently.
Is This a Good Fit for You?
Volunteering with LHCOS is a good fit if you:
- Are comfortable following written instructions
- Can complete tasks without frequent reminders
- Have basic computer and email skills
- Can realistically commit small, consistent amounts of time
It may not be a good fit if you’re looking for:
- Hands-on animal care
- Creative control over programs
- Drop-in or unstructured volunteering
How the Process Works
- Submit the volunteer application below
- A coordinator reviews responses and follows up if there’s a match
- Selected volunteers complete a short trial task
- If it’s a good fit, you may be invited to continue
Not all applications result in placement, and that’s okay—this helps ensure positive experiences on both sides.
