2019 The Year in Review (Page 32)

In 2019 the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society organization celebrated its 20th anniversary and boy did we do some amazing things.

Our organizations principles:

  • Community
  • Awareness & Activism
  • Research & Rescue
  • Education

Allow us to brag on our community and it’s dedication to our mission and principles by sharing our accomplishments in 2019.

Claws in the Classroom has helped approximately 30 classrooms with proper supplies and care information.

Claws in the Classroom recipient and Local Rep Darcy, and her class, will be video chatting with another Claws in the Classroom class of littles to share their knowledge. 💜

Local Reps Darcy and Serina are setting up their first educational booth at a local pet show in Texas.

This summer Local Rep Mike spent every Monday at his local Humane Society in Florida teaching kids about hermit crabs. They even met Jon!

Stacy regularly attended a local exotic pet show in Missouri to educate the public and in January will be traveling to Wisconsin for a show.

Stacy provided care information to a college professor who wanted to teach incoming students proper care in Texas at Freshman orientation, as well as a conservation group who contacted us for help and adoption information.

LHCOS held its first convention to celebrate Mary Akers’ captive breeding success. Approximately 165 babies have been adopted to date. Mary has been interviewed twice since CrabCon.

Our regular adoption program has helped re-home about 250 hermit crabs this year. We expect to re-home even more in 2020.

Beth once again visited Ocean City NJ to talk to store owners and customer about proper care during the Miss Crustacean Pageant.

We added several amazing Local Representatives.

Many of you have been advocating locally as well, talking to stores and customers in stores.

Our amazing Facebook team has helped thousands of hermit crabs live better lives.

We have zero funding of any kind. All of this is done with our own money and YOUR donations whether it be time or monetary.
