Welcome Evie M (Page 17)

LHCOS is excited to officially welcome Evie to the Local Representatives team! Evie joins us from Florida and she has already started representing LHCOS at local exotic pet shows.

My love for and involvement with hermit crabs is relatively new but I have been active in animal rescue for decades. My son was 9 years old when he asked to get hermit crabs and we purchased three small crabs from a local pet store. After learning about the terrible cruelties they suffer in the pet trade, I wanted to help hermits by rescuing those in need, promoting adoption, and developing ways to educate the public on their care and bring awareness to the issues surrounding their sale. I started my own little rescue, Hermit Harbor, when a LHCOS local rep reached out to me on Facebook. He became a mentor to me and continues to educate, help, and inspire me. I became a LHCOS foster home in early 2021. At one point I had over 100 crabs in my care! I later became an adoption facilitator for captive bred babies and an approved seller. Finally, I was accepted as a Local Rep in the fall of 2021 and started setting up crab advocacy booths at reptile expos. I am committed to helping LHCOS reach its goals and providing support to crab keepers (especially when it comes to shells). Although my son’s interest in the hermit crabs has waned, he and his older sister continue to assist me with the rescue and online store.
