Giving Tuesday: Make a Difference for Land Hermit Crabs

Hermit Crabs in Bags, Stacked for Shipment.

Every year, millions of wild hermit crabs are taken from beaches and sold as disposable pets. Most won’t survive their first year in captivity — not because they can’t, but because they were never given a chance to thrive.

At the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society (LHCOS), we believe education and compassion can change that story. For over 20 years, we’ve worked to raise awareness, share accurate care information, and build a global community that values the lives of these small but remarkable creatures.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to stand with us and help protect land hermit crabs everywhere.

Your Gift Supports:

  • Education & Outreach: Through our Claws in the Classroom program and online resources, we teach proper care and inspire future generations of crab keepers and conservationists.
  • Crab Con: The annual international conference brings together experts, educators, and enthusiasts to share knowledge and celebrate these amazing animals. LHCOS co-presents the conference in partnership with Hermit House.
  • Adoption & Rescue: The LHCOS Adoption Program helps crabs find safe, healthy homes and gives owners the support they need to provide lifelong care.
  • Research & Conservation: We partner with educators, scientists, and citizen volunteers to protect wild habitats and reduce wild harvesting.

LHCOS is 100% volunteer-run — every dollar goes directly toward resources, outreach, and community programs that make a real impact.

Your gift, no matter the size, helps us continue this mission of education, conservation, and compassion.

Together, we can make a difference — one crab at a time.
